Nickel is one of the most common metals in the environment and repeated exposure can lead to contact dermatitis, usually seen as a local area of red inflammatory eczema, and is the major cause of this condition.

Nickel is found in most metal and metal plated objects such as jewellery (including gold), spectacles, coins, kitchen utensils, watches, buckles, zips and fasteners. By avoiding contact with nickel, the dermatitis will clear up very quickly.

Until recently, the only way of determining if nickel was present was to wear the item. Now with our new Nickel Detection Test in a few seconds you can find out if it is present without the discomfort of trying the item out for yourself. Simply place 2 to 3 drops of test solution on to a test stick and gently rub over the metal for a few seconds. If the stick turns pink there is nickel being released. A colourless test means the item is safe to wear. The test will not damage the item you are testing in any way.
