Both these allergen triggers thrive in damp, humid rooms at room temperature, a de-humidifier is a good device to help control these allergens, where dampness is encouraging them to thrive.

Typical rooms and the not so obvious….

Bedrooms in a basement, garages in older homes both naturally produce higher than average condensation or relative humidity (RH), and this can promote growth of mould as well as encourage mites in the bed, particularly in the centrally heated home.

Frequent airing can help, but on winter nights, let de-humidifier balance things out.

By drawing out the excess condensation it can stop moulds and associated allergens growing and is generally healthier for most respiratory ailments. Reducing relative humidity to 50% or less will ensure mites don’t have a chance. Other areas providing a good breeding ground for mould are utility/wash rooms and bathrooms in frequent use. Very often though these can be treated with a suitable spray daily like Anti-Mould and Mildew Spray – (Allerayde product number 5431).

In a 24 hour period the Allerayde Honeywell de-humidifier will extract up to 12 litres of water. Overflow? No it automatically switches off when the tank is full (5.5 litres). It is one of the quietest makes we have reviewed, and is easily wheeled around (handle and castors). A filter helps to remove dust and pet dander from the air as well. Ideal for areas up to 100 sq.m with average ceiling height.
